Yamaha Models

This is an attempt by us at the Flute Atelier to organise and categorise Yamaha flute models. If you find a model that is incompatible with our categorisation below please let us know.

 

3-Digit Models (YFL-###)

First Digit (Material)

2## - All silver plated

3## - Sterling silver headjoint, silver-plated body and keys

4## - Sterling silver headjoint and body, silver-plated keys

5## - Sterling silver headjoint, silver-plated body and keys

6## - Sterling silver headjoint and body, silver-plated keys

7## - Sterling silver headjoint, body and keys

8## - Sterling silver headjoint, body and keys (soldered tone holes)

9## - Optional Gold with sterling silver keys (soldered tone holes)


*The 5-7 series flutes are hand-finished.

*The 8 & 9 series flutes are fully handmade.
*Straubinger Pads are found on the 6 series and higher.

 

Second Digit (Mechanism)

#1# - closeH + offset-G + split-E

#2# - closeH + offset-G

#5# - closeH + offset-G + split-E + Pointedkeys* + Lowmat*

#6# - openH + offset-G

#7# - openH + offset-G + split-E

#8# - openH + inline-G

#9# - openH + inline-G + split-E + Pinless

 

*It appears that a 45# has a solid silver headjoint and plated body, a 35# has a solid silver lip plate and plated silver elsewhere. Both have pointed key arms.

 

Third Digit (Generation)

##1 - First Generation

##2 - Current Generation of 2-4 series flutes

##4 - Second Generation of 5-9 series flutes
##5 - Second Generation of 2-4 series flutes

##7 - Current Generation of 5-9 series flutes

*Pointed key arms are not seen on first generation 2-4 series.

U - curved headjoint

N - Nickel Plated

S/SL - Solid Silver lip-plate

HD - High durability instrument

GB - Gold Brass

GL - 24K Gold Plated lip-plate

II - Later revision

CT - C# trill

W - Wooden Flute

A - 14K Gold, Silver Posts and Keys

B - 14K gold, Silver Keys

C - 14K gold

 

Redistributed Models

YFL-200AD - Is a YFL-221 or YFL-222, most likely a YFL-221

YFL-200ADII - Is a YFL-221 or YFL-222, most likely YFL-221, perhaps a YFL-221II or other extra add-ons

F100SII - Is a YFL-221 or YFL-2F22, most likely a YFL-221

F100ASII - Is a YFL-221 or YFL-222, most likely YFL-221, perhaps a YFL-221II or other extra add-ons
